Toronto Scene Study-Technique Class

Course Description:

This is an intermediate acting class geared towards the performing arts students and practitioners who want to develop and deepen their relationship between the imagination and expression.

Over the course of six weeks you will learn basic elements of Michael Chekhov’s acting technique as well as tools used by several streams of the American Method. You will explore these in order to tap into the direct relationship between the performer’s “inner” and “outer” being and will apply the elements of the technique such as atmosphere, quality of movement, imaginary centers, psychological gestures and archetypes to a partnered scene (working on a monologue of your choice is an option as well).

You will be guided towards a genuine and fresh experience in performance and away from self-directed, artificial interpretations while becoming  more proficient in using the technique to create an effective characterization, believable relationship and an authentic interpretation of a scene.

Requirements/Prerequisites:

Previous acting experience is welcome and appreciated but not a must.

Each actor will progress according to their own level of experience and will be partnered with actors with similar level of experience where possible.
